Welcome to HackMate. We are committed to protecting your privacy and ensuring you have a positive experience on our platform. This Privacy Policy explains our data practices when you use our mobile application and services.

HackMate is a platform for hackathon participants and organizers to browse events, form teams, manage registrations, and publish results.

2. Information We Collect

To provide the best experience on HackMate, we collect the following types of information:

  • Name and Email Address: Used for account creation, communication, and event registrations.
  • User ID: A unique identifier generated upon account creation to manage your session and data securely.
  • Profile Metadata: Such as your skills, roles, and team affiliations, which help organizers evaluate applications and help participants form balanced teams.

3. Authentication & Backend Services

Our platform uses Supabase for secure authentication and database management. You can sign in using Email/Password or Sign in with Apple. When using Sign in with Apple, we only receive the information you explicitly authorize Apple to share with us (e.g., email address and name).

4. How We Use Your Information

  • Providing Services: To enable you to register for hackathons, form teams, and manage your profile.
  • Communication: To send you updates about events you have registered for, team invitations, and important account notifications.
  • Security: To maintain the safety and security of the platform and its users.

5. Account Deletion & Data Removal

You have the right to request the deletion of your account and all associated personal data at any time. We strictly comply with Apple App Store guidelines regarding user data deletion.

How to request account deletion:

  • In-App: Navigate to your Profile Settings within the HackMate app and select "Delete Account". Follow the prompts to permanently erase your data.
  • Via Website: Visit our Account Deletion page for detailed instructions.
  • Via Support: Contact us at Support with your account details to request manual deletion.

Once an account deletion is requested, all your personal information, including Name, Email, Profile Metadata, and Team Affiliations, will be permanently removed from our active databases within 30 days.

6. Data Sharing and Third Parties

We do not sell or rent your personal information to anyone. We may share your profile metadata and basic information (Name) with Hackathon Organizers when you register for their specific events, so they can manage the event effectively. Furthermore, our infrastructure providers like Supabase process your data securely strictly for hosting and authentication purposes.

7. Data Security

We take data security seriously. By leveraging Supabase, we utilize industry-standard security measures including encrypted connections and secure data storage to protect your personal information against unauthorized access, alteration, or destruction.
